Além das luzes multicoloridas pulsantes positivas que emanam de seu cubo, a ‘Arquitetura’ da quarta ‘Arquitetura’ é visivelmente mais brutalista e ressonante dos dias atuais do que seus predecessores. Sua missão musical, entretanto, permanece intemporalmente inalterada. Em termos de tons e temas, ‘EA4’ possui o meio-termo equidistante entre os álbuns ‘Northern Exposure’ e ‘Renaissance’. Nunca vendo as electronica-extremos da antiga, nem tão chão intenso quanto o último, o seu progressismo atinge a mediana perfeito entre.
Apesar de ser oferecido como um item físico (como algo tão bonito não poderia!), Digitalmente ‘Electronic Architecture 4’ foi concebido como uma experiência de audição do início ao fim. O novo encontro incomparável de uma viagem relaxante e musical, sua paisagem sonora tem poucos – se houver – paralelos modernos.
Como sempre, a espinha dorsal musical deste novo lançamento é composta por criativos que começaram a trabalhar em projetos Solarstone anteriores e novos talentos, recém-recrutados para suas fileiras. Em relação ao primeiro, novas músicas ressoam de nomes como Lostly, Basil O’Glue, Stoneface & Terminal, Super-Frog Saves Tokyo, Forerunners, Nick Silvestri e outros. Enquanto isso, para seus novos talentos, a Solarstone foi mais longe do que nunca ao descobri-lo. Além de dar as boas-vindas ao influxo de novas músicas pela porta da frente, ele vasculhou os fóruns da Internet – rodovias e bandas secundárias – em busca de promessas. Quando ele o encontrou – mesmo em sua forma mais embrionária, nenhum esforço foi poupado para cultivá-lo para ‘EA4’. Caso em questão, ‘Equilibrium’ – a penúltima faixa do álbum. Nominalmente uma demonstração de software de um minuto do tecnólogo Dreams Of Wires, Solarstone trabalhou apenas com as mais breves ideias de melodia para trazer a Dreams sua primeira produção totalmente realizada.
Enquanto em sua trilha de retorno, ‘Electronic Architecture’ experimentou mais do que o seu quinhão de momentos de alinhamento de estrelas. No meio do caminho para a produção, o colaborador regular do Solarstone Alucard anunciou o fim de sua aposentadoria, jogando o material de um álbum no demo box da ‘EA – vários dos quais encontraram seu caminho em sua mistura. Richard também encontrou uma faixa ‘fita perdida’ de 12 anos atrás de Vincent Lewis (que – fãs de fatos – dirigiu o vídeo ‘Electric Love’ de Solarstone!). Em essência, uma cápsula do tempo musical que remonta aos tempos mais embrionários da ‘EA,’ Pulse Train ‘tornou-se parte dos estágios de abertura do álbum. ‘Estamos Descending’ – a última impressionante de Lostly – chegou poucas horas depois de Rich precisar de algo para promover uma tranche mais temperamental, enquanto a faixa de abertura ‘Lament’, de Super-Frog Saves Tokyo, chegava um dia após o início do projeto. Em tempo hábil, o álbum também apresenta a nova produção de Solarstone, ‘Pale Blue Dot’, o sexto ‘Slowmotion’ de seu & Orkidea e o remix quente de Kryder de ‘island’ When I Dream ‘.
Mais importante do que nunca para a constituição da Arquitetura Eletrônica são as Reconstruções do Solarstone – onze das quais apresentam ao longo da duração. Não são exatamente remixes, reedições ou re-imaginação, são versões que trazem faixas incríveis em linha com a ética sonora da série, já que Richard faz de tudo, desde ajustar até reconfigurar por atacado para caber.
Aside from the pulsingly positive multi-coloured lights that emanate from within its cube, the ‘Arthitecture’ of the fourth ‘Architecture’ is visibly more brutalist & current-day resonant than its predecessors. Its musical remit though remains timelessly unchanged. Tonally & thematically, ‘EA4’ owns the equidistant middleground between the ‘Northern Exposure’ and ‘Renaissance’ albums. Never seeing the electronica-extremes of the former, nor quite as floor-intense as the latter, their progressivism hits the perfect median between.
Despite being offered as a physical item (how could something this beautiful not!), digitally ‘Electronic Architecture 4’ has been devised as a start-through-finish listening experience. The new nonpareil of the kick-back-‘n-musically-trip encounter, its soundscape has few – if any – modern parallels.
As ever the musical backbone of this new release is made up of creatives who’ve cut their teeth on previous Solarstone projects and new talent, freshly recruited to its ranks. In regard to the former, new music resounds from the likes of Lostly, Basil O’Glue, Stoneface & Terminal, Super-Frog Saves Tokyo, Forerunners, Nick Silvestri and others. To its new-talent-latter meanwhile, Solarstone has gone further than ever before in uncovering it. As well as welcoming an influx of new music through the front door, he scoured the Internet’s forum-highways & Bandcamp-byways in search of promise. When he found it – even in its most embryonic form, no effort was spared to cultivate it for ‘EA4’. Case in point, ‘Equilibrium’ – the album’s penultimate track. Nominally a one-minute software demo from technologist Dreams Of Wires, Solarstone worked with just the briefest of melody ideas to bring Dreams his first fully realised production.
Whilst on its comeback-track, ‘Electronic Architecture’ experienced more than its fair share of stars-aligning moments. Halfway into production, regular Solarstone collaborator Alucard announced the end of his retirement by dropping an album’s worth of material into ‘EA’s demo box – several of which found their way into its mix. Richard also stumbled across a twelve-year-old ‘lost-tape’ track from Vincent Lewis (who – fact-fans – went on to direct Solarstone’s ‘Electric Love’ video!). In essence a musical time capsule dating back to ‘EA’s most embryonic times, ‘Pulse Train’ became part of the album’s opening stages. ‘We’re Descending’ – Lostly’s stunning latest – arrived within hours of Rich needing something to further a moodier tranche, whilst opening track ‘Lament’ by Super-Frog Saves Tokyo’s landed a day after the project commenced. In timely fashion the album also hosts new Solarstone production ‘Pale Blue Dot’, his & Orkidea’s sixth ‘Slowmotion’ and Kryder’s desk-hot remix of ‘island’s ‘When I Dream’.
Key as ever to ‘Electronic Architecture’s constitution are Solarstone’s own Reconstructions – eleven of which feature over the duration. Not remixes, re-edits or re-imaginings exactly, they are versions that bring incredible tracks into line with the series’ sonic ethic, as Richard does everything from tweak to wholesale reconfigure them to fit.
Timelessly picking up exactly where ‘EA3’ left off – whilst also giving us a highly desirable musical anchor to the last decade, the fourth epic ‘Electronic Architecture’ walks among us from May 14.
